One Small Little Thing

The inevitable question whenever I demo ClinchPad is  ’How is it different?’. I show them ClinchPad’s UI.

The response is encouraging but part skeptical. After all, an UI is just One Small Little Thing.

It is understandable because we expect the Next Big Thing to blow our minds away when we first hear about it. Imagine these following companies before they were big

Google

We’re going to write another search engine except for One Small Little Thing - we’ll have an interface consisting of just a search box.

Twitter

We’re going to build another social network to share Facebook style status updates except for One Small Little Thing - we’ll restrict the status updates to 140 characters.

Instagram

We’re going to build another photo sharing app in a world where everyone shares photos except for One Small Little Thing - we’ll allow users to add filters to their photos.

Dropbox

We’re going to build another cloud file storage app except for One Small Little Thing - we’ll allow users to have a folder which they can drag and drop files on their desktop.

Pinterest

We’re going to build another way for people to share cool stuff that they’ve found except for One Small Little thing - we’ll display all this in a grid style layout.

The reality is Next Big Things usually have incremental changes that are executed very well. One Small Little Thing usually makes all the difference.
